Judy Wood Nz Artist After the Rains contemporary landscape

Judy Wood was influenced at an early age by her Mother Ann McNair who paints in acrylic and watercolour in the Coromandel.

Judy and Ann held exhibitions together for many years at the local Coromandel Hall and have jointly sold many hundreds of works to New Zealand and overseas buyers.

Although largely self-taught, Judy studied for a short time with James Lawrence at Whitecliffe College of Arts. She also enrolled in art classes at Te Tuhi in Pakuranga and various weekend workshops with a number of artists, including Barbara Von Seida. In order to develop her artwork she has also completed a number of classes at Matthew Browne School of Art.

Normally painting in acrylics, Judy choose to expand her painting style by doing a weekend workshop using oils with Jane Kellahan in 2017. This encouraged her to add oil painting to her artwork toolbox.

Judy’s style of painting embraces colour and texture and she is influenced by the coastal and bush environments around New Zealand. These are seen in the colours and her use of texture in her work.
